Recently, three Veterans ended their lives on the grounds of our VA facilities. Every death by suicide is a tragedy and we are deeply saddened by these losses.
VA facilities are designed to be places where the women and men who defended our nation can receive restorative treatments and learn new skills to support their health and well-being for life. A suicide among fellow Veterans and those who care for them is heartbreaking.
VA facilities are full of Veterans, some seeking care and many others working to serve fellow Veterans, who are always ready and willing to help. We know – because we have seen the power of people working together. Please support one another during this critical time and know that people are ready and willing to talk to you about any challenge you may be experiencing. We all can do something to help the Veterans in our lives.
We call on every American to Be There for Veterans (www.BeThereforVeterans.com) and to honor the legacy of generations of Veterans by keeping our VA facilities safe and free of violence of all types.
If you or someone you know is having thoughts of suicide, the Veterans Crisis Line offers free, confidential support and crisis intervention, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Call 1-800-273-8255 and Press 1, text to 838255, or chat online at VeteransCrisisLine.net/Chat.
