The Travis Manion Foundation (TMF) is seeking Veterans to serve as youth mentors and help develop character and leadership skills in young adults.

Veterans can become a Veteran Mentor through TMF’s Character Does Matter youth mentorship program and help lead positive change in their communities. TMF is dedicated to empowering Veterans to share their stories – stories of real people – exemplifying strong character and leadership, and can demonstrate what it means to live TMF’s “If Not Me, Then Who…” ethos, challenging youth to do the same.

man high-fives kidsAccording to TMF, nearly 84% of Veterans report a sense of community as a result of being involved with the program, as well as a significant increase in their sense of thriving as their involvement increases.

“The impact TMF has had on me has been tremendous. It’s given me the courage to do things I never pictured myself doing – including public speaking to youth and motivation to tell my story,” said one Veteran Mentor. “I’ve gotten a lot of peace being able to inspire others and having TMF and the Veterans in this community as an outlet.”

Veterans will receive virtual Veteran Mentor Training and walk away fully prepared to deliver TMF’s character development curriculum to students in the community. TMF equips Veterans with all the resources needed to deploy the Character Does Matter program and continue a legacy of selfless service.

Learn more and register to become a Veteran Mentor through Travis Manion Foundation’s Spartan Development Center, a 24/7 portal where participants can access Travis Manion Foundation training courses and an extensive resource library to help make a difference in the lives of the youth in the community.

My name is Mr.Ronald Brown and I have been working with youths and adults with mental and physical disabilities for the past 20 years, I believe it has been a gift from God, as well as my passion , youths are the future, and if we expect to our future to be better we own have to help those who we are leaving in charge of that future, to help them learn, listen and become leaders of that future, God has given us the ability and responsibility to teach our youths about their responsibility to their future.

Looking through the links and website, I get the impression you are looking for younger veterans, not us 60+…

    • Alex December 1, 2021 at 3:38 pm

Come on, George. No matter how mature we are in age, we can help share our wisdom with the youth. God Bless.

    • Katherine AREHART December 2, 2021 at 7:46 pm

My husband is in the 60 plus group. He still coaches youth soccer and referees high-school! You are only to old if you stop getting out of your chair. And truthfully when we were in full time and had children i always searched for older individuals to be adopted grandparents.

I, too, am a Veteran who served honorably in the U.S. Coast Guard. Working with Kids/Young adults have always been a passion of mine and instilling their worth and purpose in the world, is so very important, especially these days. I volunteered at the Brenner Home, a part of Maryville, and found it to be not only rewarding, but effective in helping these young people. As a woman, I feel I’d be especially helpful with both the young men and ladies in this program. Please send me some additional information, via email.

    Thank you!

Good program but there’s a lot of homelessness in vets that I think would be a better investment in helping to heal!!!!

  18. Michael Ford November 25, 2021 at 10:59 am

My complements to the TMF. Our young people are starving for a sense of purpose at a time when even our leaders
cannot deliver. The “good fight” never ends.

  19. WILLIAM P KENNEDY November 25, 2021 at 10:41 am

My name is William Perry Kennedy and I am very interested in becoming a mentor. I have had alot of life and death experiences that I would love to share with others. I want to be apart of your mentor program so as I can tell my life stories to children and adults alike so they can hear to never give up on their precious lives. Believe me I have astonished many others with my stories and would love to have a public platform to tell of these life and death stories to each and everyone. For example I almost got shot by my younger brother from the back seat of a rental car my parents had rented from a certain reputable car rental service. This experience was down right terrorizing for me. There are many more stories to come so please allow me to become a mentor to many.

  29. Lee J Steiger Jr November 24, 2021 at 8:34 pm

Do you get to select the age group (I.e. 14-20 year olds)? I’m not good with young children.

I use a cane and can’t walk very much — is there a great deal of physical activity required? I get tired easily because of medical conditions.

How many days a week are you required to volunteer (because I serve in other volunteer programs / ministries)?
