The Mountain State
According to a survey studying moving patterns throughout the United States in 2021, West Virginia was among the top five states that saw an increase in residency during the year.
Digging deeper into the survey, people moved to West Virginia for a variety of reasons, including family, lifestyle and cost of living. Many who chose West Virginia as their new home were 35 to 44 years old, solidifying the state as a destination for professionals looking for a change.
Clarksburg, in particular, has a lot to recommend it as well. The median home value is $83,375, far less expensive than the already affordable median home value of West Virginia overall, which clocks in at just under $125,000.
In turn, the cost of living in Clarksburg is rated at 16% less than the national average. Your hard-earned money can go farther without having to give up the conveniences of city life. The availability of amenities is cited as one of the most popular reasons to live in Clarksburg.

We offer our employees strong starting salaries based on education, training and experience. Our flexible schedules offer plenty of downtime to reset your work-life balance. With 13 to 26 paid vacation/personal days, 13 sick days annually with no limit on accumulation, and 11 paid federal holidays each year, we offer lots of time to enjoy all the good things that a place like West Virginia has to offer.
Taking the next step in your VA career couldn’t be easier for nurses. We offer unrestricted licensing and relocation, so typically you won’t lose any benefits, accumulated paid leave or pay when you transfer from another VA facility. If the time comes when you choose to move on, you’ll be eligible to work at any of our 1,300 facilities across the nation and in some U.S. territories.
