July 4, 2026, marks 250 years of independence. In honor of this milestone, VA is partnering with America250 to honor one amazing Veteran per week for the next 250 weeks leading up to July 4, 2026.
This week’s America250 salute is Army Veteran Charles L. Thomas, who received a Medal of Honor for his actions fighting during World War II.
This week’s America250 salute is Marine Corps Veteran Margaret A. Brewer, the first woman Marine to reach general officer rank.
This week’s America250 salute is Navy Veteran Robert Ballard, who used new naval technology to find the Titanic and sunken Navy submarines.
This week’s America250 salute is Army Veteran James Okubo, who posthumously received a Medal of Honor for his actions during World War II.
This week’s America250 salute is Army Air Forces Veteran Maggie Gee, who was one of two Chinese American pilots who served in the Women Airforce Service Pilots during World War II.
This week’s America250 salute is Marine Veteran Duane Dewey, who received a Medal of Honor for shielding his platoon from a grenade in Korea.
