By the end of 2014, Team AMVETS will have served over 1,500 Veterans and families. Through 2015, they will continue to work towards their goal of providing furnishings for every Veteran in California who receives housing vouchers through the HUD-VASH program. According to a recent survey, when shown a photo of a man that appears to be homeless, one third of respondents label him as having a mental health issue. Nearly one in five believe that he has a criminal past. And, in the second most popular response—after the 87-percent of people who identify the man as homeless—almost half of respondents label the homeless-looking person as a military veteran. Those who assume that a homeless man is a veteran are wrong nine times out of ten.
