Mayors Challenge

VA and the Department of Health and Human Services’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) convened the Mayor’s and Governor’s Challenge participants in July to discuss how safe messaging and social media best practices can help prevent suicide.

The Long Beach VA teamed up with the LAPD and the L.A. County Sherriff’s Department to provide Veterans in crisis with support from their peers.

VA, the Department of Health and Human Services’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and state leaders from seven states came together Feb. 6-8 for the inaugural Governor’s Challenge to Prevent Suicide Among Service Members, Veterans and their Families.

Seven states will participate in the Governor's Challenge, including Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Montana, New Hampshire, Texas and Virginia.
