March 25 is National Medal of Honor Day. The Medal of Honor is the Nation’s highest military commendation and it recognizes members of the armed forces who have distinguished themselves through extraordinary bravery and valor in combat.
Army Veteran Hiroshi Miyamura is the second Japanese American to receive the Medal of Honor. His award was classified by the Army for 28 months while Miyamura was held by North Korean forces as a prisoner of war during the Korean War.
Air Force Veteran Charles E. Yeager served in World War II and the Vietnam War. Yeager became the first man to break the sound barrier on Oct. 14, 1947, flying the experimental Bell X-1.
