VA has been named one of the top five Best Places to Work in the Federal Government by the Partnership for Public Service.
We’re among the highest ranked of the government’s largest agencies, and it’s the first time ever that we’ve been ranked among the top five on the list.
In addition, the Partnership for Public Service also named us the most improved large federal agency for 2021.
Recognizing employee input
Produced by the nonprofit, nonpartisan Partnership for Public Service with the assistance of Boston Consulting Group, the annual rankings measure employee engagement and satisfaction. The data provide leaders with a roadmap to better manage our government’s most important asset—employees.
“You have been the backbone of this country during the pandemic,” said VA Secretary Denis McDonough in a message to staff announcing the recognition. “So, in accepting these honors, I also want to make a promise to you: I promise to do everything in my power to serve you as well as you serve Veterans, their families, caregivers and survivors. Because you are the best public servants in America, and you deserve the very best places to work—and I will never settle for giving you anything less.”
The Partnership for Public Service award provides VA with yet another distinction as an employer, having been named a top employer in the nation for the second year in a row by Forbes.
Not resting on laurels
Since more than 9 million Veterans count on VA for quality health care, we must start every day with a fresh commitment to making life better for the men and women who protected our country. It’s our mission, and we know it’s up to all of us to make sure Veterans can enjoy the health and happiness they deserve.
While these honors show the strides we have made for our employees, we are committed to continuing to make sure employees are engaged, supported and empowered to provide Veterans with timely access to world-class health care. We are pushing forward with major steps designed to make every VA job a good job.
We are:
- Working with Congress to raise pay, maximize bonuses and increase incentives for employees to stay on;
- Increasing opportunities by growing future leaders and opening the door for higher general schedule grades and promotions;
- Speeding the hiring process by better leveraging hiring authorities and improving the national onboarding process;
- Offering greater flexibility to work outside the traditional workspace whenever and wherever possible;
- Helping cover the cost of child care by increasing the income cap to receive a child care subsidy through VA;
- Investing in measures to improve well-being by listening to employees and developing recommendations for how to address burnout, promote work-life balance and more.
