VA’s investments in employees result in innovation

VA’s commitment to innovation is a frequent channel for new technologies to be implemented as part of our work to improve Veterans’ lives. Through the dual processes of innovation and research, we influence health care discovery across the nation.

None of this would be possible without the people throughout VA who are willing to find a better way to provide care. We know that our innovations come from employees who demonstrate dedication to their work and resilience in the face of adversity. They focus on building solutions that exceed expectations and enable us to better serve Veterans.

“Everyone has a challenge, and these are wildly different people from very different backgrounds. That’s what makes us strong. The who is the community and the where is everywhere,” said Allison Amrhein, director of the VHA Innovators Network.

Recently, one of our most important efforts, VA’s Million Veteran Program (MVP), met its core goal of enrolling the titular 1 million Veterans. Now, moving forward, MVP researchers will use this information to understand how genes affect health and illness. This can also help health care providers offer better preventative care and treatments of illnesses and disease.

This is innovation in action, and the work we do means significant advances in diagnosis and treatment of disease and disability.
