As part of our ongoing effort to support the hiring of military spouses, VA recently became the first Federal agency to sign the 4+1 Commitment in support of policies aimed at helping military spouses find meaningful employment.

After I married my active-duty spouse, I remembered a conversation with a skeptical relative about my remote employment search,” said Megan Paone, an active duty Army spouse. “Doubts about finding a ‘unicorn’ remote job were ever-present, but I knew I needed to remain optimistic about securing a position that could move with our family as needed.”

Paone’s concerns are all too real for many military spouses, which is why VA’s historic pledge to the 4+1 Commitment is a game-changer for military spouses. Through the 4+1 Commitment, VA is implementing policies to enhance hiring and retention efforts, resulting in long-lasting career opportunities for military spouses.

One of the tenets of the 4+1 Commitment is offering telework, virtual, and remote work, which are essential for military spouses who manage the home front. And through our Veteran and Military Spouse Talent Engagement Program (VMSTEP), we maintain our ongoing efforts to be a leader in developing and implementing military spouse-friendly policies and agencies.

    I don’t understand how everyone is missing who this program is targeted for employment. It literally says “Veterans and Spouses”. This includes disability Veterans with ratings of 100 and Veterans without a disability. It’s for BOTH Veterans and Spouses. I am not trying to be rude, bluntness towards those who are commenting without fully understanding who this program is intended- Veterans and Spouses. Asking “why not Veterans with disabilities, why not a program for those that served”… click on the link to the program and it states in the 1st paragraph that it’s for Service Members who are now Veterans and Spouses- Veterans is even the 1st word before Spouses.

    This is wonderful…but what telework opportunities is the VA providing for service- connected disability Vets. Where is that program?

      Everywhere, all government job postings, this one they are talking about is also for Veterans. Any local government jobs, federal job listings -Veterans are given the preference for federal postings. You don’t need a program named for just them when they are all available for them.

    Every veteran deserves this not certain ones, stop complaining! We all served that’s what matters. Previous poster is correct people will complain about anything! There are plenty of opportunities for 100% ratings and their spouses.

    This is a great step, would be excellent to be inclusive of certain veterans, especially at the 100% P&T ratings. I encourage people to write their Senator. Who doesn’t want to help such veterans?!

        I am not sure how everyone isn’t seeing the word VETERANS. The link to this program literally says “Veterans and Spouses”. Most government federal and local give Veterans a one up over those who aren’t service connected.

    Why is this not included for disabled veterans? A lot of Veterans do not have spouses in military for income.

      IT LITERALLY says for VETERANS and spouses. It’s a program they want people to know about It’s out there for spouses but also VETERANS.
