If they would give back the prescription for the pain meds I had for a documented problem I could move and lose weight. As it is I gained 70 pounds in the 2 years since they took them away to help people who abused theirs. Lack of movement has warehoused me and doomed me to sit and sleep in a recliner 24 hours a day with no exercise. Can not lay flat, and they gave me a scooter to be able to check my mail 100 feet away. I never had a problem with my meds, just like thousands of other veterans with documented health issues. But they cut off everybody to make it easier on doctors and make a congressman look like a hero. That is until they need pain relief, which will be taken care of asap.

I am a 100% disabled diabetic vet, and every time that they send me to one of these things, I laugh my head off. Why? Because right now, I eat less than they propose, and eat better meals. But somehow or another, they think that I am doing something wrong. I have been on doctor assisted diets for years, and every time I lose the weight, the weight comes back on and then some. The doctors call this the fact that the body believes that it is being starved, and so it craves more to replace the loss. So, in the end result, I am much heavier than when I first started trying to lose weight. Oh, and I had a vigorous exercise program all along. I finally conceded to my doctor, that I felt that it would be safer and healthier to settle at one weight and just remain healthy there, rather than this up and down thing that I have been doing for all of my life. But there are still these know it alls who keep saying that I should lose weight. One of us is wrong, and I am positive that it is not me, from trial and error.

MOVE is a wonderful program idea. It would be enhanced if veterans could access MOVE and a regular fitness program in their community because travel to VA facility can be a barrier. How about a partnership with places like the local YMCA ? Fitness for Vets would be grest for the VA and the veteran.

Do they have this program at any of the CBOCs, or do you have to travel into Baltimore (for me) to take advantage of it? I live very close to the Ft. Meade or Glen Burnie CBOCs, but getting into the Baltimore VAMC is always a fun-filled adventure.

This is a outstanding program and all Vets should take part. They all are so helpful.
