To VA, a recruiting event is about more than interviewing potential candidates. It’s also an opportunity for candidates to turn the tables and interview our recruiters by asking questions regarding our organization and available positions. With the following tips, you can make sure you get the answers you need as a job seeker, while leaving an impression that sets you apart from your competition.
Do your research
To ask insightful questions, you must understand the subject at hand. That’s why we encourage you to absorb as much information on VA as you can, including our mission, values and more. That way, you’ll ask questions that demonstrate your knowledge of and interest in our health care system. For example: “How does VA ensure consistency in treatment quality across all 1,700+ facilities throughout the United States?”
See what your peers think
When you’re waiting in line or taking a break at the event, use the downtime to ask other attendees what they think about our organization. Seeing things from a different perspective may enable you to better understand VA and determine whether it’s the right fit for you. These social interactions can also help ease any tension you may have, which leads us to the final tip.
Relax and be confident
You’ve done your homework and everything else you need to prepare for the interview, so take a deep breath, relax and be confident in yourself. After all, your demeanor says a lot about you. If you’re calm, cool and collected, you’ll show the potential to succeed under pressure, which is essential in health care.
