Already an industry leader in digital health care, VA has been given the go-ahead to expand the use of audio and video technology to continue providing high quality care to Veterans during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Throughout this public health emergency, providers may use FaceTime, Facebook Messenger video chat, Google Hangouts or Skype with patient permission to provide telehealth.

Our longstanding telehealth program delivers Veteran-centered health care by connecting Veterans with their VA care team, no matter the distance. In 2019, we provided telehealth services to nearly 900,000 Veterans, a 17% increase over the previous year.

“VA is committed to offering Veterans the health care they deserve, whenever and wherever they need it,” said VA Secretary Robert Wilkie in November 2019. “We want every Veteran to have a choice to schedule an in-person, telephone or video visit with their providers depending on their preferences for health care delivery.”

The program offers interactive video visits, in-home and mobile health remote monitoring, and technologies that transmit health data or images to VA providers.

  • Medical support assistant: Serve as lead scheduler and work collaboratively with other members of the expanded health care team.
  • Vocational nurse: Collect data electronically using home telehealth equipment for Veterans.

But telehealth isn’t the only way VA is a digital pioneer. We also offer telework in several other fields.

Although not every VA job comes with a telework option, many positions allow it on a regular or ad-hoc basis with a formal agreement.

Some fields to consider include:

  • Human resources: Oversee employee and labor relations matters from a remote location.
  • Administrative support: Use your strong organizational skills in a clerical position, helping our administrators and providers focus on program management and patients.
  • Budgeting: Work in the financial field, developing and executing budgets to keep our medical centers, outpatient clinics and community living centers running.
  • Contracts and procurement: Help procure supplies and services, from preliminary research to contract negotiations to quality assurance.
  • Legal: Consider a job as a paralegal, providing direct support to our attorneys.
  • Public affairs: Promote our great work, creating and executing communications plans on a range of topics.
  • Medical records: Work in health information management, assigning codes, reviewing documentation and more.

    Lots of info except for actual jobs. Veterans need jobs not congested web pages with useless info.

    HA! Even the ones that are eligible will find their request to telework has been denied. Why are you spreading these lies?
