Every February, VA throws a party for the thousands of Veterans who receive care every day in VA medical centers, outpatient clinics, domiciliaries and nursing homes.
It’s National Salute to Veteran Patients Week. This is your opportunity to say thank you to this special group of men and women.
“The National Salute to Veteran Patients is a wonderful opportunity for patriotic Americans to show their appreciation for Veterans. I encourage everyone to visit a Veteran at a local VA medical facility this Valentine’s week,” said Sabrina C. Clark, director of the Center for Development & Civic Engagement. “I challenge everyone to make this National Salute the start of a commitment to honor Veterans by volunteering at a VA Medical Center and offering their own personal touch to serving those who served us first.”
Activities across America
Among the many activities at VA medical centers across America:
- The Oklahoma City VA will be distributing thank you bags to Veterans. They will be visiting inpatient as well as outpatient Veterans and will also be visiting the CBOCs as well.
- The Martinsburg VA Medical Center will be airing a magic show by the Washington, D.C. Magic Club on their internal channel. The channel airs at Veterans’ bedsides.
- Buffalo VA will be accepting Valentine Cards from a few politicians. It also will hold a photo op outside featuring local school kids.
This is your opportunity to say thank you to a special group of men and women, the millions of Veterans who are cared for by VA.
The week also provides an opportunity for the community to become acquainted with the volunteer opportunities within medical centers.
Contact your nearest VA Medical Center and ask for Voluntary Service to discover the wonderful things you, your group or organization can do to salute America’s Heroes. Locate the facility nearest you.
National Salute To Veteran Patients is observed through Feb. 20.
