July 4, 2026, marks 250 years of independence. In honor of this milestone, VA is partnering with America250 to honor one amazing Veteran per week for the next 250 weeks leading up to July 4, 2026.
This week’s America250 salute is Navy Veteran Herbert V. Wiley, who served on rigid airships before commanding USS West Virginia during World War II.
This week’s America250 salute is Army Veteran Jack C. Montgomery, who received a Medal of Honor for his actions in Italy during World War II.
This week’s America250 salute is Army Veteran Hugh Thompson Jr., who saved Vietnamese civilians in the village of My Lai. He was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart and Soldier’s Medal.
This week’s America250 salute is Marine Corps Veteran John McGinty III, who received a Medal of Honor for his actions in Vietnam.
