Many active-duty service members and Veterans play video games to relax, connect with each other and have fun. Esports, short for electronic sports, is also a growing phenomenon of competitive, team-based video game tournaments.

DAV Patriot Boot Camp Winter ‘23 will be hosted at the organization’s national headquarters near Cincinnati from Feb. 9–11. Applications are open through Dec. 8.

December 10-17—during the “PACT Act Week of Action”—VA medical centers around the country will be holding in-person town halls to provide information on VA health care eligibility and benefits.

The Veteran Fire Corps is looking for new team members. The National Park Service program is now open and runs from Jan. 16, 2023, to April 21, 2023. The 10-month U.S. Forest Service program is now open and runs from Jan. 16, 2023, to Oct. 6, 2023.

Thus far, 18 people have completed Shields & Stripes, which tries to rehabilitate those battling mental health conditions such as PTSD, major depression and anxiety disorder. Shields & Stripes can also work with people who have experienced mild traumatic brain injury, which is essentially a concussion and a frequent injury from the post-9/11 conflicts, and moral injury, which is a conflict with one’s personal code of morality.

VA Secretary Denis McDonough addressed the top requested concerns from Veterans and their families, caregivers and survivors during a special town hall on Nov. 9.

The Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center won the Best Experience Award in its category, marking a fourth consecutive Excellence in Patient Experience Award for the medical center. 

On Veterans Day 2022, the National Park Service will unveil a lifetime pass providing free entrance to national parks for Veterans and their families.
