On this Memorial Day, today's #VeteranOfTheDay is dedicated to the 58,318 Americans who gave their lives in service to their country during the Vietnam War.

Army Veteran Dave Nichols (69) lost both of his legs below the knees in Vietnam. He will be at the Golden Age Games in Alaska this week. “Get off the couch and keep a smile on your face.”

Denny “Santa Claus” Smith, 73, won gold at the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival with a tribute to his wife of 49 years and his son who died suddenly.

“This Commemoration has special significance for those of us at VA because of our honored mission to serve those who have “borne the battle,” said McDonald. “It’s also an opportunity to remember our VA colleagues who served in this generation of Veterans, to extend our heartfelt appreciation to them and to their families who shared the burden of their loved one’s service.”

On March 29, 2016, Vietnam Veterans will be honored with events across the country and a Wreath Laying Commemoration Ceremony at the Vietnam Wall in Washington, D.C. Check with your local VA facility to see when they are hosting their Vietnam 50th commemoration event.
