Take a look at the calendar that hangs in your kitchen or office. I bet it is filled with doctor’s appointments, kids’ activities, family gatherings, work commitments, and other to-do’s. Are there any notes on the calendar that say, “me time,” or “fun,” or “time to smell the roses?”

How would it feel to schedule some time to enjoy life? To have a pleasant experience? It may sound corny, but you only get this one life. Can you give yourself regular “appointments” for things that bring you joy?

Here is a 9.5-minute visualization activity that can help you to enjoy being in your body. In less than 10 minutes, you will experience how powerful the mind/body connection can be. Giving yourself time in a quiet place—a place of peace, tranquility, safety, and happiness—will allow your mind and body to rest and recover wherever you are.

Now that you have given yourself the gift of 10 minutes, can you make a commitment to yourself to do this regularly—and even mark it on the calendar? Will you also make a commitment to your health?

Taking time to examine what really matters to you can improve your health. Make a plan for your health in 2023 and share your goals with your health care team.

Maybe you want to feel joy, but you just can’t get there. It is not uncommon to feel blue and unmotivated in the winter months, but if you are really struggling, reach out for help. Check out “Don’t Wait. Reach out” for support. VA offers this depression screening tool that can let you know if you are experiencing more than the winter blues. For immediate crisis help, call the Veterans Crisis Line by dialing 988 and then pressing 1 or, text 838255.

Yes, I am really struggling! Sacramento is terribly yang after Tahoe. My HUD housing rent went up 60% and I’m looking to navigate to the pawn shops. I’ve been bullied on Facebook by Sacramento Women Veterans. It seems I was insaensitive or what the hell I am 81, educated, lived 30 years in San Francisco and have loved and lived beside all kinds of people. It seems the push forward by women vets is all about them with little respect or sisterhood. This added to the media push of fat women of all colors and sexualities is making me want to throw up. In the 70’s we loved everybody but it seems yet again we have to have it pushed in our faces! I have a book to write and lots of fun things to do. When I get home from the pawn shop. I try to stay away from negativity as much as I possibly can. I work in a environment where people are not polite as I wish they would be. I embrace the ones who help make my day and avoid others that bring negative vibes.
