In an effort to help homeless Veterans find and sustain permanent housing, VA and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development have come together to form HUD-VASH, a collaborative program that provides HUD rental assistance vouchers for privately owned housing with VA supportive services to eligible Veterans and their families.
VA case managers connect Veterans with the social services they need to maintain long-term housing. The mental health and substance use counselors, along with educational and vocational support, are critical to help Veterans recover and re-establish themselves in the community. Among VA homeless continuum of care programs, HUD-VASH enrolls the largest number and largest percentage of Veterans who have experienced long-term or repeated homelessness. As of September. 30, 2015, HUD had allocated more than 78,000 vouchers to help house Veterans across the country.

Just too many nightmare and only a few success stories and that’s not good enough for me or any other Veteran who have walked in the shoes of being homeless and ask for help and only receive red tape and other BS that doesn’t began to tackle his/her problems, but they will allow a three time voucher holder to crash-n-burn and give that person another voucher only for that person to return months later and get another voucher while others cannot.

HUD-VASH IS A EVER HANGING “PIPE-DREAM. I HAVE TEIED TO GET HELP FOR 25 YEARS AND THE CRITERIA CHANGED EVERYTIME MY SITUATION CHANGED. The only Vet’s that I ever saw receive VASH fail in a month or two so one other Vet gets that voucher. VA says “look here we now have TWO success stories!”. It is misleading! The vouchers should be used for Veterans capable of maintaining a residential lifestyle. Accountability is essential.
