ADPCS at the more than 170 VA medical centers and outpatient centers around the country are a key part of the executive leadership team and report directly to the VA Medical Center Director. Their duties include strategic planning, organizational assessments and program development. They establish standards of nursing practice and ensure the continuous and timely availability of quality nursing services.

“ADPCS lead all nurses at the VA facility and outpatient clinics, including registered nurses, advanced practice nurses and allied health staff,” Collins said. “They raise the quality of nursing care across the organization, improve the Veteran-centric team-care approach and, ultimately, help millions of Veterans get better, faster.”

  • Oversee all community-based outpatient clinics, sterile processing services, chaplain service, nutrition and food services, and home-based primary care.

  • Promote integration and collaboration of nursing with other professional disciplines and functional areas to achieve patient-centered and organizational goals.
