One of VA’s recruiters provided helpful hints on how to successfully navigate the VA application process during a live broadcast on VA’s social media channels in May.
Dave Aragon answered a series of commonly asked questions about the application process from video host Mike Owens, VA Marketing Specialist. After giving an overview of how the process works, Aragon dove into application and interview tips, the length of the application process and how Veterans preference affects an application.
“Typically, the VA makes the entire process fairly simple,” Aragon said. “The online application process is fairly structured and very simple once you identify opportunities that you’re interested in.”
“We’re a large organization so sometimes the process is long,” he added.
In addition to checking out the archived video, he recommended that anyone interested in applying to VA spend time on the VA Careers site at www.vacareers.va.gov.
“This is a really robust website and has a ton of information — everything you ever wanted to know but didn’t know who to ask about hiring,” Aragon said.
Then, Aragon fielded questions from a virtual audience on LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter. Audience members inquired about:
- Getting in touch with recruiters
- When to follow up on an application
- Hiring preference for military spouses
- Nurse residency programs
