This month, we’re hitting the road and exploring some exciting initiatives happening at VA facilities across the country—and we want you to join us for the ride! It’s a great way to get a glimpse into VA’s commitment and innovation in action, for the health and happiness of America’s Veterans.

Our first stop is the Baltimore VA Medical Center, where researchers are developing effective new methods to help Veterans build strength, stay balanced and prevent falls. At the Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Center, study leader Dr. Les Katzel and his team employ a “multimodal balance intervention” (MMBI), which includes obstacle courses that mimic real-world hazards (e.g., changes in floor textures and heights) in order to improve mobility and core strength. Veterans in the program also receive weekly nutrition sessions and personal diet plans to assist with weight management. But the benefits go beyond the physical—Dr. Katzel reports that “there’s clearly a social benefit from people coming here. There’s emotional support.”

Stay tuned to see how other VA facilities are improving the lives of Veterans every day. Follow our virtual tour on social media using #RouteVA. Ready to join us in our mission? Wherever you are in the country, you’ll find rewarding careers serving Veterans. Search our available positions and apply today.
