Nearly 3,000 Americans perished on Sept. 11, 2001, in the deadliest attack ever on U.S. soil. The chilling day is simply known as 9/11.

Today's #VeteranOfTheDay is Army Veteran Karen Wagner, who died in the Pentagon on 9/11 and is buried at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in Texas.

Jorge DeLeon served as a paratrooper with the U.S. Army. While conducting a convoy escort in Afghanistan, his Humvee hit a mine and he lost his leg.

Navy SEAL Veteran David Goggins is the only member of the U.S Armed Forces to complete SEAL training, the U.S. Army Ranger School and Air Force Tactical Air Controller training. Goggins has also competed in over 60 marathons, ultra-marathons, triathlons, and ultra-triathlons.

More than 2,000 volunteers from Carry The Load joined the National Cemetery Administration for a national day of service for 9/11.
