Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Navy Veteran Joe Frank Edwards Jr., who served as a fighter pilot during the Persian Gulf War and a NASA astronaut.

On the 55th anniversary of the Gemini 6A mission, today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Air Force Veteran Thomas P. Stafford, who piloted the mission.

During National Native American Heritage Month, today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Navy Veteran John B. Herrington, who served as an aviator and NASA astronaut.

In his decades-long career, James A. Lovell Jr. served in the U.S. Navy, and was most notably known as an astronaut in NASA’s Apollo 8, 11 and 13 missions.

Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Air Force Veteran Ellison Onizuka, the first Asian American to fly in space who died on the space shuttle Challenger.

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission, Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay are the men of the Apollo 11 crew: Navy Veteran Neil Armstrong, and Air Force Veterans Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins.

Best known as the second person to walk on the moon during the historic Apollo 11 mission, Buzz Aldrin was also a highly decorated Air Force Veteran.

Alan Bean was a Navy pilot and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) astronaut who walked on the moon in the Apollo 12 mission.

Guion Bluford was selected along with 35 others, including the first women astronauts, by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.

Raye Montague's story was recounted in the film, Hidden Figures, which describes the vital roles African American women played in the NASA space program.
